F.A.QQ: My machines are around 10 years old so they already have some backlash on the ball screws, with the anilam control it hasent been a problem because they have a parameter or feature were I can adjust or correct in an easy way the backlash by inputing exactly how much it has. For example if x axis has .003 inch that’s what I write to the parameter and the control automatically compensate for it.
A: Backlash value can be any amount you enter. In general backlash beyond .003" means it is time to fix the mechanics. Centroid also has a setting for the speed of the backlash take up. This can smooth out the larger backlash values.
You will find the settings at: F7 utilities - F6 User maintenance - F2 Backlash Enter the actual measured value for the backlash of each axis. Taking it one step further the Centroid control will accept axis mapping by laser measuring device. This will compensate for inaccurate ball screw pitch and other defects in motion. Q: What kind of backlog do you have? I’m thinking of buying an older 5 axis machine and immediately updating to a centroid control. Can you give me a ball park turnaround time for you to complete a retrofit like this? Just want the rough order of magnitude here. Would it be 1 month? 1 year?
A: For a 5 axis system the On-site could be as little as 4 days or as much as 7 or more. This depends on the project and how much is to be replaced.
New servo motors? AC or DC servos? New or existing servos? We mount or Customer mounts the motors? Console mounted on the OEM arm? or rolling floor stand? or customer handles this. How many other other services will the control be handling - ATC? Hydraulic pump and solenoids? Scales? Limit switches are good or to be replaced? by us or customer will handle this? Are there a complete set of wiring documents for the original machine? These are the obvious items that will consume installation time. Every project has its share of unforeseeable issues to deal with. There is also off site engineering time required before quoting your project and ordering the hardware. Are there motor mounts to be drawn up and fabricated? Belts and pulleys to be sized and ordered? Do you require new wiring prints? This will take time as well. Never as simple as plug and play. Q: My machine has a high speed spindle that fits into the main spindle. When I install this the main spindle must be disabled. Can a Centroid control provide a lockout for the main spindle while controlling programmable spindle speeds on my highspeed spindle.
A: Yes. I would recommend adding a physical switch that will be set to "main - or - High Speed" This switch will tell the control which spindle is active and lockout the main spindle. The control can also send speed commands to your HSS.
Q: Do you have literature to help me set up aux buttons on the pendant? Example, I would like to set up servo motor on/ free using a pendant aux button.
A: There is already an F key for this.
F1 setup F3 Feed Choose free or power The manual also has information for assigning custom Mcodes to an Aux button. The Mcodes can be written in standard G-code. Make up your own M-code for any operation that can be executed in MDI. Place that file into a Mcode filename then assign an Aux button for that code. Late model controls (Windows) use the name format of "Mfunc10.mac" Where the number 10 is the Mcode number you want to assign. G28 is often used for moving the machine to a load/unload position. The location for G28 is based on Machine home so it will always be in the same location no matter where your part home is. Search for "G28" in the manual and read up on it. Q: ?
