| Question: How do I write a cnc program to cut my part?
There several ways to provide your control with the information it needs to cut Precision computer controlled parts. 1. Let our highly advanced conversational programming generator walk you through each step in the milling process. From tool selection to drilling cycles you can see your exact tool path on screen to verify your selection. 2. You can use standard Fanuc G-Code to program your part. 3. There are many low cost CAD/CAM programs available
today. Place your completed G-code program onto a 3.5" floppy disk and
copy it onto your control's hard drive.
|
| Question: What parts do I need to supply?
You will supply a pentium class computer, monitor, keyboard. Provide a safe and clean location for your computer. Use your machine's existing motors and encoders or you may wish to purchase new units. |
| Question: What if my machine has large motors?
You can order CNC in a box with a digital decoder in place of the 3 axis driver set. This decoder circuit board will convert our control's digital signal to the industry standard (+ - 10VDC) analog signal. You can then choose most any commercially built servo drivers including AC brushless types. |
| Question: Does it run under windows?
For safety and consistency CNC in a Box runs under DOS version 6.22. DOS is a real time operating system, Windows is not. DOS has only one version available, Windows has several versions available with more to come. Each version will excite programs in a slightly different. Not a good idea when you need and expect specific predictable performance. For those who feel they must run Windows on their CNC computer you can use "Boot Switch" to start your computer in one system or the other. |
| Question: How do I send files to my CNC computer?
If you are producing G-code files from a desk top CAD/CAM you will have many choices available. 1. You can place your program onto a 3.5" floppy and transfer it onto your Control's hard drive. 2. You can communicate via RS-232 communication protocol. 3. You can setup a network connection. DOS will transfer to and from Windows via a high speed network flawlessly. |

Coordinated 3 axis of motion. If one axis should stall (for any reason including encoder fault) our coordinated motion brings the other axis to a halt. Stepper systems will assume that the requested move was completed and continue processing your part program. G-Code processing is an industrial standard for all professional level cnc controls. If you are familiar with Fanuc G-Code programming you will feel right at home. Our controller's processing is proven and predictable. For those of you who do not know standard G-code we include our conversational programming software at no additional charge. Tool Compensation for both length and diameter is a must for even the simplest CNC controls. With this CNC feature you simply change two values in your tools table rather than rewriting your entire program. Mid program restart is a powerful feature which will save you the hours of program cutting and splicing required by other controls. With this feature you're free to begin cutting at your program's line number, N number, or graphical tool location. In less than a second CNC in a Box has read and computed all previous program information and is ready to begin cutting at the point you have selected. CNC in a Box also has many optional features not even offered in most
CNC controls.

| Servo motors | Most low cost motion controls use stepper motors to provide axis motion. Their control will command a specific number of steps and assume that each step has created motion in the time frame expected. | Our CNC in a Box uses closed loop servo motion just like every name brand CNC control on the market. Digital encoder feedback allows our CNC control to know the current position of each axis. | Truly precise coordinated motion is what you get with
servo controlled motion.
Your machine will have greater precision and smoother motion. If your machine already has motors, they are most likely servo motors. |
| DC servo drivers | Most low cost controllers require that you purchase their stepper drives to work with their software package. | Our digitally controlled 3 axis servo drivers are INCLUDED at no additional charge. A value of over $2,000.00 | These drivers are compatible with nearly all brands and models of brush type servo motors. (The most common motor used on cnc machines today). |
| Driver tuning | You can spend hours and in some cases days
fiddling with drive adjustments before achieving motion that is
nearly smooth. |
Our digital software provides you with one button "auto tuning". Each of 6 driver variables are set automatically In less than 2 minutes, your machine motion is optimized for the ultimate in smooth acceleration, deceleration and coordinated motion. | When properly installed cnc in a box will never produce out of round circles, axis over shoots or jagged steps in your part finish. You can feel comfortable using the smallest size cutting tools. |
| Built in Safety | For the most part safety is left up to your own design. Most low cost controllers will have no clue as to the running condition of your machine. | Our highly developed software continuously test all conditions for any errors. Error messages are displayed on screen in plain English. | In case of an error the drivers power will be shut down AND you will find an error message on screen pointing to the reason for the failure. |
| Installation Documentation | We have seen everything from 2.5" thick manuals provided just to design the motion response of their software. Others may only supply as little as a 20 page flyer. | Each system is shipped complete with full control installation documents. Electrical wiring is clearly displayed in a graphical format. | Installing your new CNC in a box control couldn't be easier. You can completed your project in the shortest possible time and with complete confidence. |
| CNC Programming Documentation | You might want to ask them for a sample of their documents. | You will find a few pages of sample documentation on this site. Our programming manual includes a full description of each G-Code and step by step use of our highly developed conversational programming. | You can choose the method that works best for you. CAD/CAM, G-Code, or Conversational. |
| Pre-written PLC Programming | Some do but most don't. | Our standard software version includes your PLC code for M3,4,5, 7,8,9, and auto lube outputs as well as monitoring for lube fault, limit switch errors and the position of your E-Stop push button. | No additional hardware is required. You can use these features as written or write your own custom M-codes. |
| Less Money
More Control |
Some stripped down kits may cost less today, but they will never grow with your needs. | Our mission is to provide you with a tested & proven control hardware / software package. 15 years of PC based cnc experience is supplied in every box. | No hobby level control could provide so much for so little money. CNC in a Box gives you a lot of control for the lowest possible price. |
| Manual Pulse Generator | Each pulse generated by rotating the hand wheel clockwise or counter clockwise will move your selected axis in the positive or negative direction. You select the amount of motion per pulse. The hand wheel fits directly into your hand held control pendant. | MPG 32 with its plastic hand wheel
produces 32 pulses (detents) per revolution.
$350.00 MPG 100 with its metal hand wheel produces 100 pulses (detents) per revolution. $535.00 |
| Servo Motors | We can supply you with complete servo motors including cables. See our motors web page for specific physical details. | ST 12 is rated
at 12 inch lbs.
ST 29 is rated at 29 inch lbs. |
| Digital Encoders | 2,000 lines is recommended as a minimum resolution
for the encoder feed back although 1,000 lines can be used successfully.
Find more details here. |
ENC 2000 Universal mounting digital encoder. $195.00 each |
| Drivers Power Supply | While 3 DC drivers are included with your CNC in a Box , the DC power supply components are not. For those who have the resources we provide you with the component specifications so that you may obtain these parts locally. However, you may wish to purchase these components directly form Machines in Motion to be received along with your kit. |
